Setting sail from La Rochelle at the age of 20 aboard Damien, their 10-meter wooden cutter, Jérôme Poncet and Gérard Janichon spent five years at sea. Their 55,000-mile journey was marked by numerous firsts: Spitsbergen, a trip up the Amazon, Cape Horn, the Southern Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula... A daring voyage that took them from the icy seas of the Far North to the warm waters of the equatorial coasts, and from capsizes to stopovers, leading them to discover their calling as long-distance sailors. Yet, during this circumnavigation of the globe, the crew wasn't seeking feats of daring; it was first and foremost a remarkable human adventure they shared. Damien is an ode to youth, friendship, and the sea, the story of a boat and two gypsies of the ocean who never quite returned to land.
