Stéphane Narvaez
Founder of ECCO,
Certified skipper and cruising sailing instructor, FFV recreational sailing coach
I took my first sailing trips on dinghies at a FFV sailing school in the 70s and 80s.

I then learned by embarking on racing-cruising sailboats in FFV circuit regattas (Surprise, First-Class8, J24, Selection37, JOD35,...).

In 1999-2000, I obtained a Sailing Pleasure Craft Skipper's Certificate (BPPV - Today captain200).

A professional merchant marine officer in the Atlantic, I sail on my first 36-foot cruising sailboat based in Les Sables d'Olonne. I organize cruises. I was present at the start and finish of the 2000 Vendée Globe.

In 2012, I became the sixth sailor to have completed a solo, non-stop, round-the-world sailing voyage against the prevailing winds. I sailed over 29,000 miles on OÏKOS.

2024, after training at the CREPS in Montpellier and as a cruise instructor at Glénans in Marseillan, with a "BPJEPS Sailing Cruise" in hand, I became an FFV cruise instructor, "FFV PLEASURE SAILING COACH".

2026 - FFV CQP IV instructor trainer.

With over 100,000 miles of experience sailing, at sea, in coastal and offshore navigation, and with perfect knowledge of the Mediterranean coastline, I am happy to be able to teach cruising sailing and share the pleasure of sailing... With a motto: "Safety first so that the pleasure is complete"

WE ARE INTERESTED IN YOUR QUESTIONS - FIND THE ANSWERS TO THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS HERE

The sea is a place of unspoiled nature, which means we are exposed to the elements. A sailboat provides shelter with a furnished and protected interior space (your bag doesn't need to be waterproof; a lightweight canvas bag is preferable).
When you're on deck, you're exposed. It's therefore essential to pack clothing appropriate for the forecast and likely weather conditions. You should always have warm, windproof, and waterproof clothing on hand.

In summer, we mostly wear light clothing because the weather is mild and the sea is calm. We protect ourselves from the sun with a hat and sunglasses. Better than sunscreen are light clothes that cover our legs and arms.

We are also thinking about deck shoes (closed shoes) that offer comfort, protection and grip when moving around.

Regarding sunscreens, aerosols are prohibited.

A simple duvet is enough for the night... or your own sheets if you prefer.
Appropriate food and plenty of water to ensure you never lack energy and hydration... And for pleasure.
Yes.
All levels of sailing knowledge are welcome.
The FFV defines different levels and we are here to, if you wish, help you progress from beginner level to autonomy.
Seasickness is often caused by cold, hunger or fatigue. We should therefore avoid putting ourselves in these situations. When in doubt, it is best to ask your doctor and/or take "mer calme" as a precaution.
At night, we have new landmarks to orient ourselves. It's very pleasant in the summer. Moreover, if the moon makes an appearance, it offers us a glow that outlines the coastline and provides a different panorama than during the day.

To consider it, you need to be in good shape to be able to maintain watch, follow the navigation and adjust the sails.

Depending on the length of the crossing, night watches should be considered to allow for rest and to ensure a crew is always in good shape.

Plan for recovery the following day.

Training with a professional skipper offers benefits such as gaining practical sailing skills, personalized advice and the guarantee of safe navigation on a habitable sailboat.
We offer various types of cruises, including training cruises, discovery cruises, advanced training cruises, and themed cruises, all conducted on comfortable sailboats with a qualified and experienced professional skipper. All cruises are carried out with respect for the environment and with an emphasis on raising awareness of marine wildlife. Weather permitting and if you wish, it is possible to participate in whale and dolphin watching sessions by sailing along the likely routes of whales and dolphins. This allows you to become an active participant in citizen science.

On board there is everything you need for cooking. Everyone participates in preparing meals.

Cooking at sea is always more difficult, so it is best to prepare meals in port or at anchor before setting sail.
A deposit of 50% of the total amount will be required to confirm the reservation. The balance will be paid 15 days before departure.
For reservations less than two weeks before departure, the total amount will be requested.
In the event of cancellation on our part, all payments will be refunded without further compensation.
In case of cancellation on your part, no refund will be given.
For your comfort, we recommend bringing either sheets or a sleeping bag. A sleeping bag is ideal. Don't forget a towel for your stay as well.
Internet works with the terrestrial network. As soon as we move away from these relays, communications are reduced. However, in coastal navigation on the Côte d'Azur there is always a network so the internet works for our program.

Yes, swimming is possible as long as the boat is anchored at anchor.

The contact page also allows you to ask questions, which we will be happy to answer.

In 1895, Joshua Slocum left Boston aboard his restored sailboat to embark on a solo voyage around the world. His exceptional feat, his determination, his courage in the face of solitude, and his positive attitude have made him an iconic figure in sailing. His account has since become a classic of maritime literature.
